I had such amazing results with the last challenge I did at Cave Crossfit that I couldn’t wait for the next one which rolled around this weekend. This time it’s a 60 day challenge, which for me means that I’m on a strict Paleo diet again for two more weeks than my last run, on top of that, I have three additional work outs a week to complete and I’m food logging religiously.
It all started on Saturday morning with a training and goal setting seminar -
Coach Brian took the lead, by getting all Oprah on us with this fantastic quote to inspire us, and remind us that any changes we want to see in our lives come from our thoughts:
It reminds me a little of what I wrote about yesterday regarding integrity and our actions – I love when life gets all synchronized like this.
Coach Brian then introduced us to the lovely Coach Lauren who is a nutritionist and yoga guru… I am looking forward to taking her class in a couple of weeks.
A great piece of advice she gave us was to look at portions, so whatever would be on our plates as a carb, we need to think of replacing with veggies or salad. I realize that tonight, as I sit here typing STARVING, why this was such good advice. For dinner I had two grass-fed beef burgers and a portion of brocoli … what I forgot was that I would normally have something starchy with a meal like this – chips or a bun at least. According to Coach Lauren, what I SHOULD have done, was add an additional portion of veg to make up for the carbs- so an additional green would have been better. I swear if I wasn’t watching The Biggest Loser, I would be eating my roomie’s chocolate stash that he’s forgotten about. (I am on team Jillian btw – you?) and had I added an extra portion of salad or veggie I think I’d be much more content.
After we set our goals for the next few weeks, we moved on to the next part of the day which was a work out. We will be repeating in 6 weeks to see how we improve… I casually looked over at the other coaches and saw them all relaxed and laughing, and wondered for a split second if they knew something I didn’t…
And then we got to see what was in store for us:
Now, when I saw this, I honestly felt quite confident, there’s no moves here that I can’t do, and the weight seemed manageable, and 12 minutes to finish this is pretty decent amount of time…AND, if I took a really long time to do this work out, then I knew that my results in 6 weeks would be that much more impressive.
That, btw, is STRATEGY people…. I told you I watched The Biggest Loser:
So five stations were set up, which meant that 5 people went at a time… and by the time it rotated to me, I had second thoughts about playing any kind of game. I mean, people were falling to pieces – finishing with 4 seconds to go- collapsing on the floor after- there was sweat and vomit everywhere (ok, maybe not the vomit) But I mean, this was true Biggest Loser type stuff – you have no idea!
I immediately gave up on the idea of playing any sort of game, and just decided to focus on finishing, and because we were running a little behind, the classes after us had come in and were hanging out watching us. This made it feel even more Hunger Games that it needed to be, so I was just all about looking good and finishing this damn thing.
Coach Nikki was my one-on-one coach for the challenge, she’s just awesome and knows exactly when to push me to work harder. I told her I wanted to scale the wall-ball part, I honestly haven’t worked out for 5 weeks, so knew I would be dead if I did it with 20lbs… so maybe I did play some strategy after all, because I’ll use the 20lb balls in 6 weeks.
I finished the work out in 9:31 – I used the blue band on the pull ups and a 14lb wall ball.
Also, I weighed in at 160.
Building A Better Me – The Story So Far:
I’ve eaten Paleo every day, I did my first extra workout of the day, and I’m about to head to bead to get up early to so I wake up refreshed for my regular class which involved rope climbing (AWESOME!)
More to follow on this – will keep you posted.
