Ten Inspirational Songs for Runners
I’m busy trying to stay positive after the most disastrous weekend, when my heart got drop kicked out of the window by the love of my life, (I’m trying not to be bitter about that, I swear but I may need a week or so more).
Music is a major part of my life, it literally pays the bills, so my playlist is usually new mixes from clients, or demo’s as well as my favorites from the US and the Motherland.
I thought I would share some songs I’m finding inspiring right now, I tried to put my emotions on the side to make them more universal to you smug marrieds (teasing!) but it wasn’t easy as you’ll see in #5 – a good old F.U. song called ‘Fighter’. They’re not in order of favorite, but from warm-up to sprint… so I tried to arrange them as I would – I start of slow and end fast.
10 – Alaina Alexander- Believe
I can’t find this song for sale anywhere, but I just love this girl and the song is hauntingly beautiful and deserves to be massive.
9. Dan Wilson – Free Life
My client just covered this song for her new album, be on the look out for this in May by a certain Chick that used to be a bit country. It’s got so much depth to it, and just reminds me that life is for living and we’re free to do as we want. I love this version, but hers takes it to another level.
8. LP – Into The Wild
My friend Nina took me to see this incredible artist at the Sayers Club, and I’ve been obsessed. THE VOICE IS AMAZING. And I love getting into The Wild when I run, forgetting the city and just being free.
7. Jill Scott – Golden
Aren’t we all trying to live our lives like we’re golden?
6 – Imagine Dragons – On Top Of The World
This video, and the song made me sign up for The Color Run – it’s the happiest thing you’ll ever do in your life. Watch and learn runners.
5 – Christina Aguilera – Fighter
I’m sorry, but I needed a bit of Xtina telling me it’s all going to be ok with regards to the ex. And who doesn’t need a reminder that our problems make us stronger. Thanks for making me a fighter!
4 – Kylie Minogue – I Believe In You
I think everyone needs to really listen to the lyrics to this song, I think it’s a co-write with Jake Shears from the Scissor Sisters.
Sometimes I just play it because I need to hear Kylie tell me she believes in me. (I’ve had posters of her on my wall since I was 8 btw, she’s a major love of my life)
3. Ellie Goulding – Anything Could Happen
Just trust me on this, put it on your ipod and go run to it – it’s INCREDIBLE – so many layers to this song on a vocal level that inspire me to run harder. Also, Ellie is ONE OF US! She’s a runner, so we all need to go buy her album.
2. Sia – Titanium
This song doesn’t need me to say much, it’s about being strong and a reminder that we’re invincible.
1. Emeli Sande – Heaven
I don’t really know what this song is about, but I do know that I sprint exceptionally fast in the chorus.
