Given that the past two weeks have been thoroughly miserable post-breakup, I decided that what I needed was something fun and happy to distract me from the agony of love. I got a last minute ticket to the LA Color Run, and let me tell you, it’s THE HAPPIEST THING I’ve done in a really long time.
Look!…I actually look happy, (and my roomate will testify I’ve not smiled like this in a couple of weeks)
I’ll let the photo’s do the talking because words can’t really describe what a lovely 5k this is.
I met up with Andrew, Sanaz and Spencer in the car park and we posed for the obligatory ‘before’ shot:
Packet pick up is SO professional – the line is well staffed and everyone is smiley, and are appropriately colorful.
If you’ve not done one of these before, here’s how it work – it’s a 5k run – definitely NOT a race, and actually I felt like we were the only ones seriously running it. Every km, there’s a different color station – this is us emerging from the ‘Yellow’ station. Volunteers in gas masks line either side of the track and spray you with a brightly colored chalk powder.
If you’re in the middle of the track, they kinda leave you alone – but if you’re close to them, it’s your way of saying ‘COME AND GET ME’ and they attack you with the powder in a very awesome way.
We stopped at the ‘pink’ station to play with the powder – it’s fun to stop and get messy in manner of 6 year olds.
At the end of the race, you’re pretty messy – but the best is yet to come.
There’s a huge stage playing pop-tastic dance tracks and the ‘color party’ starts. Every 20 minutes or so, as more runners come in, you get to explode your packet of colored powder.
There’s a big countdown and everyone releases their happiness all at once.
That was us waiting for the color party….
And then … we go nuts!
I absolutely insist you do a Color Run once in your life. Go with friends, go with a broken heart, go dance, go live in color – go be happy.
Would you do a color run, even though it’s $50 and not really a race?

You are awesome! That is all!
We don’t have things like that where I come from, but it looks like huge amounts of fun
And I for sure would do one!!
you should start one!
That looks amazing! Shame I’m in the UK, but with potential Oz plans and they do them there…..
You look very happy, life is looking up x
I’m running one in Fargo, ND in June called “Run or Dye”. Same concept, different organizers, same amount of awesome fun!! So glad that you found a happy place again!!
Looks like an awesome time. No ambition to do a color run as of right now but if the right group of people asked…I may be in after seeing these picks!
This run looks AWESOME!!! Sorry to hear about your break-up. I don’t think I could think of something better than that to take your mind off it than the great color run! I really want to try one but I’m not sure if they have them in Canada, but I will be looking into it for sure! I just started following your blog and I must say it’s fantastic!!!! :0)
they HAVE to have them in Canada – it’s a travesty if not. Thanks for the follow
Looks awesome. How do you keep from inhaling all of that chalk dust as you run by?
you don’t – my boogers were black ;0)
Oh wow that looks like so much fun
I am doing a Color Me Rad next month. I think it’s like the poor man’s Color Run. I was disappointed when I found out it wasn’t a race but I’m still doing it. I wonder though if 5k’s are worth the entry fee since they’re over so quickly. Some food for thought while I’m studying tomorrow…
I have issues paying for 5k’s too – the color experience was worth it for this one though… normally i’ll only do 10k’s and above.
What do you study?
I just graduated from nursing school and have my board exam on Saturday. Eek!
OMG! Wishing you so much luck!!
Thank you so much!!
I’ve been watching out for this run since I heard of it the first time. We might do it this spring. Looks like you had a blast! I know I don’t really know you, but don’t let lost love get in the way; it becomes a silly building block to get to where you need to be… Pain forces you to build that block, and then you’ll go ahead and climb up it, and THEN you get somewhere that’s so much more awesome. Hope this color run was the beginning of that for you!
Ah! I have to be more aware of how I type/talk – I hope saying “silly” wasn’t offensive. I try to refrain from angry-type words, and breakups always upset me and I try to see them in a different light (than the obvious ickiness).
No, not at all
One day I will look back and see it as being very silly. And right now I’m trying to channel it into making me stronger and better.
Ok, thanks for letting me know. It’s good to hear you are seeing the positive.
Awesome pics! They have these in Melbs too, I must give it a try (although I bet that colour is a nightmare to get out of your hair ha ha!) Hope you are feeling better.
my armpits were blue for two days!!
